With their fluffy plumage, huge crests, feathered feed, and silly personalities, silkies are known to be the absolute teddy-bears of the chicken world. The buff color in particular, a gorgeous caramel tan, tends to be one of the more rare colors, but it has always been our personal favorite! We are very lucky to be raising a flock that shows excellent pureness of the buff color (low leakage), huge fluffy crests and beards, and great type.
Silkies are a bantam breed, typically ranging from just 2 to 3lb in weight, and lay small cream-colored eggs. They sport a number of unusual characteristics including black skin, blue earlobes, and five toes. Silkie roosters are known for being generous flock leaders, and the hens are amazing mothers that go broody often and are happy to hatch and raise a variety of types of fowl.
Chicks are hatched in our GQF Sportsman 1502 and 1550 cabinet incubators. All chicks are unsexed, straight run, and vaccinated for Marek’s disease at one day old. Hatches are typically scheduled on Tuesday, with the chicks becoming available for pickup starting Wednesday. We will contact you immediately following the hatch to let you know when the chicks are available and schedule your pick-up. We are more than happy to be flexible with timing so that we can find something that works for you!
