Black Copper Marans are a large, docile breed highly coveted for their deep reddish-brown egg color that is frequently described as mahogany or dark chocolate. No rainbow egg laying flock is complete without their strikingly dark laying genetics that can generate a spectrum of green, olive, mint, pink, and purple eggs when paired with blue or heavy bloom green layers and cross bred over multiple generations.
Our flock of Black Copper Marans is comprised of genetics sourced from some of the best breeders across the country who focus primarily in dark egg color, and secondarily in SOP and temperament. Our current flock typically lays from 4 to 7 on the Marans egg scale, and we are continuing to select for the darkest layers each generation, as well as keeping any hens that lay heavy bloom or heavily speckled eggs!
Chicks are hatched in our GQF Sportsman 1502 and 1550 cabinet incubators. All chicks are unsexed, straight run, and vaccinated for Marek’s disease at one day old. Hatches are typically scheduled on Tuesday, with the chicks becoming available for pickup starting Wednesday. We will contact you immediately following the hatch to let you know when the chicks are available and schedule your pick-up. We are more than happy to be flexible with timing so that we can find something that works for you!
